Consequences of Stress on Children's Development

As a child I exprience being bully by my teacher.  My first grade teacher for some reason did not like me at all.  Her punishment for me was to make me sit down in tall johnson grass for no reason. Which she would have me there from the beginning of recess until it was over.  She would also have my classmate pick on me.  They would spit, pinch, and hit at me.  This as a child hurt me.  It made me feel less as a person.  I didn't think that I was good enough for anything.  It lower my self esteem as a child.  She didn't like my mother so therefore she did not like me.  She tried to make me repeat 1st grade, but that did not happen thanks to my second grade teacher Mrs. Crawsford.  I think that within the USA children are experiencing some of these stressors.  I think that it affects there ability to function within society.  When you experience things that are outside the norm it affects you physically and emotionally.

  1. Hi Josephine,
this is a sad story adn truly shameful on behalf of your first grade teacher. How do youthink you overcame this obstacle of being bullied? Was your family's support, such as primary prevention enacted or did you continue to have low-self esteen throughout your childhood?

  2. Hello Josephine,
I am saddened to know the maltreatment in which you experience at your early childhood school doing your early impressionable years. I would like to believe that your story is from a fiction horror movie (like Nightmare on Elm Street) but I know that it is not. I had similar (but not nearly as bad as yours) experiences. Well I notice that you are a true believer and if that be so, rest assure that that teacher will have to meet her maker one day and will have to justify her evil doings. I too am a believer, I definitely believe one “reap what they sow,” I am happy that you did not allow that evil teacher to make you bitter and hateful towards others God Bless and take care!!

  3. Josephine,
That is a horrible story about how your first grade teacher bullied you. Unfortunately there are children being bullied by their teachers. I am so happy you were able to overcome that childhood stressor. Experiences such as these do impact a child’s self-esteem and development. Violence is a common stressor in children’s development today. There is no excuse, but I think there are many factors influencing the occurrences of violence today. It is a disgrace that not only this teacher allowed this to happen to you, but that she was the one bullying. Adults need to set a positive example for children and how to treat others. The violence trend cannot be broken if adults continually demonstrate violence.
